Artist Statement:
When envisioning the essence of a "self-portrait," I instinctively knew it must include my two little boys. They are not merely a part of me—they are the very embodiment of my being, the purest reflection of my pride and joy.
With this profound connection as my muse, I embarked on creating the most intricate and ambitious foundation paper-pieced quilt I’ve ever undertaken creating this quilt using 2,359 Fabric shapes. “Pride & Joy” is a harmonious union of eight separate patterns, come together to form a single cohesive work of art.
For the quilt top, I meticulously selected a palette of only 20 solids of fabric. While working with solids presents challenges—amplifying the margin for error—their minimalist beauty delivers a strikingly modern and refined aesthetic.
The quilt’s backing adds a whimsical touch with ice cream cones, perfectly complementing the vivid simplicity of the front. And has a binding of “X’s and O’s”, hugs and kisses surrounding the entire quilt.
For me, this quilt is more than a project; it is a testament to the love, devotion, and artistry that define both my craft and my life.
