Lecture: Finding Pride & Joy in Quilting – My Journey Through Fabric & Foundation Paper Piecing
Duration: 60 minutes
Join me for an inspiring and interactive lecture that traces my personal journey through the vibrant world of quilting. “Finding Pride & Joy in Quilting” explores how I began with traditional techniques and gradually evolved into designing large-scale, intricate Foundation Paper Pieced (FPP) quilts that celebrate both technical precision and artistic expression.
During this 60-minute presentation, I share foundational insights into FPP, covering everything from design experimentation and pattern drafting essentials to avoiding common pitfalls and refining your technique. I also dive into modern approaches to color theory, fabric selection, and strategies for minimizing bulk to achieve polished, high-impact quilts.
This lecture is not just about my story, it’s about equipping and inspiring others. The format is highly interactive, with opportunities for attendees to ask questions throughout. I include live demonstrations to illustrate key concepts, and a curated trunk show featuring some of my favorite quilts that highlight the heart and joy behind every stitch.
Workshops
IN PERSON
Workshops are available in a variety of formats, including 3-hour, 6-hour, and multi-day classes or retreats. Each workshop is project-based, with a dual focus on both successful project completion and the development and refinement of technique.
Workshops can be tailored to any of the Pride & Joy Quilting Patterns.
Custom project workshops can also be designed upon request to suit specific interests, group goals, or skill levels depending on availability.
ZOOM
Bring the joy of quilting to your group—no matter where you are! I offer engaging Virtual LIVE Workshops via Zoom, perfect for quilt guilds or groups looking for a creative, interactive experience from the comfort of home. These workshops feature approachable, beginner-friendly patterns designed to be completed within a set timeframe, typically ranging from 3 to 6 hours depending on your group’s needs. Each session focuses on building a strong foundation in Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) while working through an original Pride & Joy Quilting pattern.
What makes these workshops special? I stream using six live camera angles and full graphic overlays, so you can clearly see every stitch, tip, and technique—just like in a real classroom. You’ll be able to ask questions in real time, receive personalized guidance, and connect with other quilters in a vibrant, supportive virtual space. It’s the next best thing to being there in person—and sometimes, even better!
Workshop List

Capturing Memories Workshop
Explore the art of storytelling through fabric in this immersive landscape quilt workshop, where Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) takes center stage.
This class guides students through every essential element of creating a high-detail quilt—from managing bold, large-scale sections to precision-driven micro piecing—all while working within the thoughtful constraints of a limited color palette. You’ll learn how to balance color value, simplify complex forms into angular templates, and achieve clarity and depth using minimal hues.
Whether you're navigating sweeping skies or intricate architectural elements, this class equips you with the technical tools and creative strategies needed to bring expressive, layered landscapes to life through paper piecing.
This Workshop focuses on One of the Landscapes blocks within this series.

"Paris Je T'Aime" Workshop
Step into the City of Light with Paris, Je T’Aime, a unique and immersive quilting class that blends two powerful techniques, Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) and turned-edge Appliqué, into one luminous project.
In this joyful and technique-rich class, students will learn to construct a stylized Parisian landscape, featuring iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur, Notre-Dame, and the romantic rooftops of Montmartre. The structured elements of the city are built with the crisp precision of FPP, while the softer curves of Parisian gardens and decorative motifs are layered in using appliqué.
Students will gain hands-on experience with intricate piecing, directional seams, shape continuity, and advanced fabric placement, while also learning appliqué prep using freezer paper and starch, layering order, and glue-basting techniques for clean, professional results.
Whether you're new to either method or eager to refine both, this class offers a meaningful deep dive into each process while creating a quilt block that is both technically rewarding and visually captivating. The result? A stunning textile tribute to the elegance, artistry, and charm of Paris

Windows to the Soul Workshop
In this captivating one-day workshop, students will create a striking optical illusion of a beautifully detailed eye—crafted entirely from a single Foundation Paper Pieced (FPP) block using the classic log cabin structure in a bold, modern way.
Though deceptively simple in form, this design packs in a wealth of technique: students will learn how to control visual flow using color placement and value, achieve radiant contrast with intentional fabric gradation, and master clean, precise piecing even with sharp angles and tight turns. We’ll cover how to pre-sort and label fabric for efficient construction, use directional piecing to mimic curvature and depth, and troubleshoot common FPP challenges such as paper tension, bulk management, and alignment.
By the end of the day, students will walk away with a compelling eye motif that blends traditional structure with contemporary artistry—all from one seamless block

Heart of a Lion Workshop
Step into the wild beauty and quiet strength of the animal kingdom in this full-day Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) workshop featuring the Heart of a Lion quilt—a bold, vibrant, and majestic portrait that captures the soulful gaze of a lion with geometric precision and emotional depth.
In this class, students will learn how to tackle large-scale FPP portraiture by breaking it down into manageable units, all while exploring advanced techniques such as color mapping, value transitions, and fabric selection for realistic texture and dimension. We’ll dive into the importance of eye placement for emotional impact, how to navigate micro piecing within larger blocks, and strategies for joining complex sections with accuracy.
Whether you’re newer to FPP or an experienced piecer looking to level up your skills, this class offers a deeply rewarding journey into expressive, high-detail foundation piecing—where every stitch contributes to the powerful story held in the eyes of the lion.
